    Democrats want Americans to help each other, while Republicans want Americans to help them help themselves.

    Republicans fight for the rights of big business , Democrats fight for the rights of regular people like you and me.

    Well you could say the difference is which special interests they cater to.

    But in general you could say that often democrats and republicans differ in social conservatism/liberalism. the democrats being more liberal and favoring things like social programs right to choose etc… and the republicans being on the other side.
    Fiscally most of the time they both spend spend spend.

    Democrats tend to rely on government too much for their needs and rely on social programs. Their policies and spending enlarge the gov’t,but it often complicates. things. republicans favor a simpler gov’t where welfare is more privatized and smaller. tax cuts help stimulate the economy.

    They have what we call opposite platforms, the republicans believe that the rich should be helped and in doing so they make investments and move their money and that it will benefit the less fortunates with the creation of jobs and a rising economy and this somehow will benefit the poorer of the poorer and the society as a whole will benefit, the democrats believe that the government need to help directly the poor so it can get better education and training and in doing so the richer ones and the society benefit as a whole, you get the point… republicans work from the top down, democrats work from the bottom and up, in my opinion the republican platform was perfect when the country started but not today

    There is very little difference between the two parties – what makes the difference is the platform a candidate runs on and that is NOT party business! A platform is chosen AFTER a candidate is nominated; the old terms of “liberal” and “conservative”, although created and fueled by the media, are useless terms that really don’t pinpoint anything useful when it comes to descriptions of a republican or a democrat. Your best bet would be to stay clear of those terms and come to grips with reality. There are more than two parties. Everybody forgets about libertarians, the Green Party and independents – Why is that???

    The Russians say that the Dems and Reps are the 2 sides of the same coin!

    The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office.
    Henry Louis Mencken (1880- 1956)

    Midas, they say, possessed the art of old
    Of turning whatsoe’er he touch’d to gold;
    This modern statesmen can reverse with ease -
    Touch them with gold, they’ll turn to what you please.
    ~John Wolcot
